Stallions Service Offering three outstanding Norwegian Stallions with high performance scores and excellent Dispositions The modern Norwegian Fjord horse is a product of decades of selective breeding through an official and extensive evaluation program for fjord horses in Norway. Our Stallion Smedsmo Gråen has been evaluated through the Norwegian system first as a three year old and then as a five year old through the six week station test. Currently the extended station test is conducted on four year old stallions. The stallions receive conformation scores as three year olds and scores in driving and movement at liberty. Now, as four year olds they again are evaluated for conformation and are tested in a number of ridden and driven disciplines by professional horse trainers. The culmination of the testing period is the annual stallion show at Nordfjordeid, Norway where the stallions either make the cut and remain stallions with a license to breed mares or they are cut and become geldings. The evaluation process produces scores in a number of categories. There is a set of numbers pertaining to the conformation of the horse and there is a set of numbers that reflect how well the horse can perform in areas such as riding, driving, draft, movement at liberty, driving in traffic, trail riding, behavior in the stall, overall assessment, and finally a score for disposition. The horse also receives an examination by a veterinarian along with a score and written comments. There is an official written description of the horse that corresponds to the numerical scores. At the end of the stallion show and evaluation some of the stallions are places in a special category of Quality. So there can be horses placed in the quality category and ranked from number 1 on down. If the judges feel there are no horses that should be placed in the quality group, then there do not have to be horses ranked in quality. Smedsmo Gråen
Villa Loius Carriage Classic 2006 Smedsmo Gråen N-96-2695 born 1996 is certainly one of the finest and most unusual stallions ever imported to the United States from Norway. Smedsmo is a slate gray color with dark points and a long forelock over a handsome head with a strikingly kind eye. This up-headed horse stands 14.2 with good legs and plenty of bone. He looks almost medieval in appearance.
Villa Louis Carriage Classic 2006 Smedsmo Gråen has earned ten solid points for disposition in the five-year-old station test at Nordfjordeid, Norway. During this test all licensed five-year-old stallions were evaluated over a five-week period by two professional horse trainers. At the end of the five-week test the horses were evaluated again by a team of five fjord evaluators over a three-day period at the annual stallion show. Smedsmo Gråen earned enough points in this evaluation to put him in the top ten % of all stallions evaluated in these tests over many years. He received 10 points for behavior in stall, 10 for trail riding, 10 for draft, and 10 for disposition. His sire Lisjegråen N-92-2877, now standing in Belgium, also had a 10-point disposition. Smedsmo Gråen was judged 9 for movement. During the past five years Smedsmo has done very well competing in open ADS driving shows. He has been Grand Champion Stallion at the Blue Earth show twice and reserve champion once. Smedsmo was ranked number three of the mature stallions at the 25th anniversary national fjord show at Winona 2006. An experienced Dressage rider and trainer has said that Smedsmo rides like a $30,000 dressage horse. Several of his progeny did well in the halter classes of the 25th anniversary show as well with two first place and two second place ribbons. This outstanding stallion is available for breeding quality mares on a private treaty basis. Price $1200 Live foal guarantee. It is a great pleasure to experience 10-point disposition in any horse.
