Horses for sale:  

Plan for success.

There are some important things to think about when acquiring a new horse for both the buyer and seller. Planning for success means matching  the right horse with the right person. Most of our horses have dispositions that are well suited for people with less horse experience or people with plenty of experience. Other horses are better off with people who want and can handle a horse with lots of will to go forward. I would rather have a horse that feels relaxed  and calm in nearly any situation but if I need more energy I can rev up the engine if I need it. Over the years I have selected mares and a stallion with very good dispositions, top athletic ability and sound Fjord horse conformation. 

Most of our horses are trained to both ride and drive. A few are not suited to drive in my opinion and should only be ridden.

In the end I have found that if I am consistent in my training my horses will be consistent. If I am confident my horses are confident. If I am soft my horses will be soft and if I am calm my horses will be calm. If I am a bold leader my horses will be bold.  Since I enjoy a good honest hard days work, my horses do too.

Raspotnik's Ingrid

Ingrid is a brown dun mare born June 1, 2005. She stands 14 hh. Ingrid has a wonderful calm disposition. She has a nice overstep at the walk as well as the trot. Ingrid is trained to drive and ride. She drives single and in pairs. Ingrid has been exposed to a lot of things here on the farm. I take them through water, over tarps, over bridges and the dogs are running around their feet constantly. 

This fall I paired her with Nona. They are a very well matched pair and are learning to work together better each time they are out. I think these two can be a competitive pair in pleasure and CDE driving. They have nice frames with nice head-sets and they are a good size at 14 hh.

 Raspotkiks Nona KR-Q-2393-M

Nona is a brown dun mare born in 2003. She stands just over 14 hh. Nona was evaluated in La Crosse with a score of 74. Nona has had two foals by Smedsmo Gråen and is currently open.  Nona has been trained to both ride and drive but she should probably be driven only by an experienced driver. She has been a very nice trail horse. Nona has nice ground manners, loads well, ties, is easy with her feet and clips easily. Nona has a good work ethic and she is calm under saddle. Nona goes through water easily for me. Nona has a nice over-step at the walk and she has some suspension in her trot. She is willing to canter if you like. I think she has nice gaits to ride.  Currently I am actively training Nona. I am driving her in a pair with Ingrid on the bob sled. I have been riding her inside our arena and out on the snow trails in the woods. She is in very good condition and likes to do her job. 

I think Nona would make a very fine horse for someone who wants a horse with good energy. She would be a good dressage horse and a good trail horse. She has very nice gaits.

Oddens IBSEN

Ibsen was born in 2008. He is a brown dun Stud colt. I have not gelded him yet because I thought he might be a Stallion prospect. His mother is Odden's Berta. Berta recieved an 81 for conformation score. He is sired by our Smedsmo. Berta is a very athletic mare with very good conformation and free movement. She is very forward in her gaits.  Smedsmo added a stellar disposition plus movement. I expect he will be around 14.1 -14.2 hh when he matures. He moves very well. He is easy with his feet, ties calmly for long periods of time and is respectful of human space.

Oddens IDAR

Idar is a gray gelding sired by the gray stallion  Eaton and out of a gray mare Odden's Dina. Born 2008. This fellow has very large movement and a very sweet disposition. He ties for long periods of time, is easy with his feet, loads in a trailer, goes over bridges and tarps and is easy to work with. I expect he will mature at 14.1-14.3. He will be ready to train  winter 2010-2011.

Oddens ILDAR

Ildar is a red dun stallion sired by Smedsmo and out of our mare Odden's Woods Eirose. Born 2008. The mare was scored 81 or blue ribbon for conformation. Smedsmo's credentials are well proven. This fellow shouted stallion from the get go. He looks nicer every day. He seems to have very good legs, very nice proportions in his body and a stellar disposition. He is very bold yet respectful. He ties for long periods of time. He leads well, is easy with his feet, goes over bridges, tarps and has been exposed to lots of things on the farm. These yearlings live together in a small herd with a couple older geldings. If you are looking for a red dun stallion this fellow is probably one of the top choices out there.

Oddens Ingberg

Ingberg is a dark brown dun gelding out of our mare Woods Ragna and sired by our stallion Smedsmo. Born 2008. Ragna is proving herself to be a very fine mare and the combination of Smedsmo and Ragna has produced a very interesting gelding. I expect he will be about 14 hh. He has a striking color and seems to be very athletic. He is good with his feet ties, goes over bridges, loads, and has been exposed to lots of things here on the farm. He is respectful of human space. Not too many fjords out there with this fellows coloration.

Currently we have four stud colts and a filly sired by Smedsmo that were born in 2009. Two red dun, two gray, and one brown dun. All the mares have been evaluated with conformation scores of 81,81,80,79, and 77.

Five Blue Ribbon Mares

For a number of years we have worked at buying and breeding fjords with outstanding dispositions, lots of athletic ability and sound bodies. I like fjords with nice heads and a nice large kind eye. Our fjords tend to be of medium to lighter build though I do have some tall large bodied mares as well. Currently we have Five mares that have scored 80 or over in the NFHR conformation test qualifying for a Blue Ribbon. Silver Willow Marcy at 82, Odden woods Eirose at 81, Odden's Berta at 81, Highland Prairie Gunvor at 8o, and DHF Heidi at 80. Three mares are in the high red category at Oddens Dina at 79, Aina at78 and  Ragna at 77.

Training

All of our horses are handled frequently and have solid ground manners. We work hard to expose them to all kinds of noises, shapes and forms and other distractions that tend to worry horses. With the selection of breeding stock with sound minds and great dispositions coupled with basic and advanced training, we think we have some of the finest fjords in the country. Our performance record speaks for itself. The horses we take to town are typically well behaved and well trained.

Woods Ragna C-Q-2795-M

Ragna is a dark brown dun mare age five and stands 14.2. This mare is a full sister Woods Karine and Oddens Woods Eirose both red duns. She has an exceptional color with a very nice head and large kind eye. Ragna has lots of leg under her is well balanced and she scored a 77 at the La Crosse eval 2007. Ragna has very good ground manners and she drives single and in a pair. She likes to be with people. During the late fall of 2008 I started her under saddle. This mare has wonderful  gaits at the walk and trot and canter and is quite forward. She is respectful with plenty of energy. She is not for beginners but she would make an exceptional mare for someone with experience and the ability to ride a forward horse with good energy.

Ragna is doing very well under saddle. My plan is to continue with Dressage training through the winter. Ragna is becoming an exceptional horse with loads of talent and now she has patience. Ragna is in very good condition since I have been using her several times each week.

Ragna had a stud colt named Ingberg in 2008.  She is currently open.
